Verizon is kicking off the big game (again) with 5G

Original published January 20, 2020

Verizon will be returning to the big game this February. Fans can once again count on the wireless provider’s 5G network to make the event bigger, bolder, and even more exciting to watch. Attending Verizon customers with 5G-compatible devices can expect several powerful benefits when they visit Inglewood, CA’s SoFi Stadium, including:

Immersive experience

No matter which team you’re cheering for, you can expect a fan experience like no other. Halftime is going Ultra, along with SoFi. That means more 5G Ultra Wideband coverage to support an array of 360° cameras spread throughout the stadium.  A complementary Pepsi mobile app (for Android and iOS) makes use of these cameras to provide a fuller, more engaging fan perspective for the halftime show. Simply download to your phone, launch once the show starts, and select AR Experience.

Local support

Verizon has also bolstered the surrounding LA neighborhood, installing new small cell sites, macro sites, and in-building systems. When you connect alongside tens of thousands of other fans, you’ll be able to stream, post, upload, and download with zero lag and incredible speed.

Better reception

At large-scale sporting events, where there are huge crowds, it can be difficult to do much of anything on your phone. Websites may not load, and texts take longer to send because the network is overloaded. With Verizon 5G, and the latest phones, like the motorola edge 5G UW, that’s no longer a problem. Search the web, update social, and stream faster than ever.

Faster loading

The 5G network has the capacity to support up to one million devices per .38 of a mile, therefore videos, music, and files may download even faster than normal. These lightning fast speeds, referred to as “flash loading,” allows users to download content in seconds.

Lower latency

5G also provides lower latency, which means you’ll experience ultra-low lag times and virtually no buffering when gaming, listening to music, or watching videos. That’s great for staying entertained on your Google Pixel 6 Pro while waiting for the game to start or standing in line at concessions.

More venues

In addition to SoFi Stadium, where the big game is taking place, Verizon has partnered with the NFL to make at least 11 other stadiums 5G Ultra Wideband-enabled:

  • Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers)
  • CenturyLink Field (Seattle Seahawks)
  • Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos)
  • Ford Field (Detroit Lions)
  • Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots)
  • Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis Colts)
  • M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens)
  • MetLife Stadium (New York Giants & New York Jets)
  • NRG Stadium (Houston Texans)
  • Soldier Field (Chicago Bears)
  • U.S. Bank Stadium (Minnesota Vikings)

Watch the big game from home with YouTube TV. Stream 70+ other live channels, including local sports and news, from your TV, tablet, or smartphone. Plus, as a Verizon customer, you can get your first month of YouTube TV completely free.

The future of the big game

As the reach and accessibility of 5G expands, you can look forward to even more changes when you attend games in person.

More convenience

Rather than using your card or cash, opt to go hands-free. SoFi and Verizon will in the future offer touchless sales options, so you can make your purchases more safely. Pay for tickets, souvenirs, and food and drink right from your iPhone 13 Pro‘s display.

Less stress

Have more fun and fewer logistical headaches. AR (augmented reality) wayfinding will eventually allow you to get around more easily. Find entrances, exits, and facilities, along with wait times. You’ll be able to use 5G with mobile parking apps to find the perfect spot to set up your tech-friendly tailgate party.
