Monitoring screen time

How to monitor screen time for you & your family

Extended time at home during self-quarantine probably means extended time on your phone, too. If you feel like you or your kids need a break but struggle with the temptation to keep scrolling, there are features on your smartphone that can help.

For Apple users, the Screen Time feature is built into the operating system. Just go to your Settings and click Screen Time. From there, you can see your daily average, your total screen time for the week, and what apps you’ve used the most.

You can also schedule downtime, during which only the apps you choose to allow and phone calls will be available, as well as set app limits, call and text limits, and content restrictions. Screen Time limits can always be turned off if you change your mind, even during downtime.

For Android users, just download the Screen Time app. The interface is easy to use and offers all the same features.

Extended screen times with your kids can be a different story. It’s easy to worry about what apps they could be using on their devices and how long they use them every day.

With Verizon Smart Family, you can keep your family safe and gain peace of mind. Verizon Smart Family is an app that gives parents the ability to important screen time limits and content filters, find their device if it’s lost, and so much more from your personal device. Just install the Verizon Smart Family app (iOS & Android) on your phone and the Smart Family Companion app (iOS & Android) on your child’s phone. If the companion app is ever removed from your child’s device, you’ll get a notification letting you know. Whether your kiddos need help putting their phones down or you just want to take a break, these features and apps will help you develop better screen habits and keep your families safe from inappropriate online content.
