Put away your white jeans (or don’t … whatever!), prepare for pumpkin-flavored everything and say “Goodbye, Summer!”
So … since a lot of us don’t work on Labor Day, shouldn’t it be called No-Labor Day? Heh-heh, well … no. Quick history lesson: Labor Day is a national holiday because it memorializes the efforts of unions—organized labor—to achieve rights such as the eight-hour work day. Today, Labor Day is a time to enjoy family and friends, eat good food and score great deals. And, that rule about not wearing white after Labor Day … nobody really cares about that, anymore.

Apps to get the party started
Here’s a list of some of our favorite apps for celebrating Labor Day. It’s kind of a “greatest hits” list, paying tribute to those soon-to-be bygone days of summer.
On this neighborhood social app for iOS and Android, you can buy and sell things locally, hire local handymen and babysitters, report lost/found pets, and (most importantly) invite your neighbors to a Labor Day block party! You’ll have to confirm your address when you sign up, to preserve the neighborhood spirit of the app.
For iOS, this app is equipped with grilling guide, customized instructions and timers, so burgers are perfect.
If you’re an Android user, this app is your new grilling buddy. Recipes, tips and detailed instructions keep your grill game on-point.
If hiking is your bliss, ditch the party and use this app. It’s great for finding and saving trails. Read real trail descriptions and reviews, and contribute to the discussion with other app users.
Keep the kids busy with a neighborhood scavenger hunt. Have fun prizes ready for the winning team!
Use this site to track who and what will show up in your backyard. Never get four dishes of mac and cheese at the potluck again. (Unless, you know, you want to!)
