We know a connected home can be energy-efficient and convenient. That’s great—but, let’s talk about having fun with the Google Home Mini!
Google Home devices can do everything from answering hard-hitting questions like “Who was the guy in Star Wars who said ‘It’s a trap!’?” to streaming your favorite music and audiobooks to managing your smart home to playing games with your family. And Google Home is always learning new tricks.
Below we’ve collected a handful of practical, useful commands. Don’t forget to start with “Ok, Google!”
“Play Lady Gaga in the kitchen and dining room!” (You can name each of your Google Home devices for multi-room audio, using any of these streaming music services: Google Play, Spotify, Pandora or YouTube Music.)
“Call Taylor!” (Google can differentiate your voice from anyone else living in your house, so you’ll get connected to your friend Taylor, and not your sister’s friend Taylor. Pretty cool.)
“Broadcast ‘Dinner time!’” (You can turn your Google Home devices into an intercom system with the magic words: “Ok, Google. Broadcast …” You can even use Google Assistant on your smartphone to broadcast to your Google Home devices.)
“How many tablespoons are in 1/8 of a cup?” “Add butter to my shopping list.” “Set a timer for 10 minutes.” (Google is a great sidekick while you’re cooking.)
“Set the temperature to 70 degrees.” “Dim the lights in the living room.” (Google Home devices can communicate with smart thermostats like Nest and Ecobee, and smart lighting products like WiFi LED light bulbs.)
Okay, enough with the practical approach. There are tons of Easter eggs (fun treats left around by Google software developers) for you to discover! We started with the magic words (Ok, Google) and tried these gems:
Ok Google …
“Make me a sandwich!”
“Make me laugh!”
“What am I thinking?”
“Do you ever get tired?”
“What is your quest?”
“What do you think about Alexa?”
“Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?”
“Set phasers to kill!”
“What’s cooler than being cool?”
“What are the three laws of robotics?”
“Bark like a dog!”
