Valentine’s Day, which takes place annually on February 14, is a day dedicated to celebrating romantic love. Romantic love isn’t the only kind of love worth celebrating, though. That’s where Galentine’s Day comes in.
Made popular by the hit television series Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating your beloved gal pals and how much they mean to you.
The annual holiday takes place the day before V-Day on February 13 and is traditionally celebrated with a wide array of breakfast foods. As Leslie Knope likes to say, “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”
However, Galentine’s Day is meant to be celebrated however you want with whoever you want. Here are some fun, creative Galentine’s Day activities inspired by Leslie Knope and her crew:
1. Get crafty!
Leslie loves to give her girlfriends handmade gifts on Galentine’s Day, like hand-embroidered flower pens and mosaic portraits. Even if you don’t want to get *that* crafty, you can still bring all your gal pals together to make something fun together. Not only will you get to spend quality time with each other, but you’ll have a sweet souvenir to remind you of your time together.
2. Carry on Leslie Knope’s tradition with a waffle brunch.
Let’s face it – you can’t go wrong with brunch. Whether you decide to stay home and host a breakfast potluck or grab mimosas at the hottest brunch spot in town, get your Galentine’s crew together for some frittatas and fellowship.
3. Shop ‘til you drop.
It’s time to treat ‘yo self! Grab your girl squad, hop on a Segway (in typical Parks and Rec fashion) and hit the mall. Maybe you can all shop for matching Leslie Knope power suits or get some swanky sunglasses like Donna. No matter what you buy or where you window-shop, you can have a blast with your best friends.

4. Take a hike or visit a public park.
Nothing would make Leslie Knope prouder than paying a visit to one of your local parks! If you and your besties love the outdoors, grab your hiking gear and find hiking trails near you. You can even pack your waffle brunch and have a picnic!
5. Stream Parks and Recreation!
Sometimes, there’s nothing more relaxing than putting on your pajamas, popping some popcorn and binge-watching your favorite shows.
