Reducing In-Transit Mobile Communication

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is asking automobile manufacturers to consider inhibiting certain mobile communications for drivers such as texting, surfing the Internet, and accessing social media while the vehicle is in motion. While auto makers are reviewing the proposal, they point out that elements of the proposal echo existing industry practices established for over a decade. They also emphasize that hands-free technologies integrate the latest advances while helping the driver to stay focused on the road.
